COLOR FROM INSIDE – LIFE IN KYRGYZ PRISONS, BY ERIC GOURLAN

OPENING OCTOBER 18, 2013, 5:00 P.M., daily through OCTOBER 30, 2013

Kyrgyz National Museum of Fine Arts, St. Abdrahmanova 196, Bishkek.

With the support of the State Service for Execution of Punishment (GSIN), the OSCE Center in Bishkek, the United States Agency for International Development, freedomhouse.kg, the GSIN Public Oversight Council and the Kyrgyz NGO Egel, Eric Gourlan spent over a month in the juvenile and women colonies and two men’s colonies, located outside of Bishkek.  The time spent within each colony resulted in unparalleled acceptance and trust of the inmates and guards, revealing the life within the prisons and the inner emotions of those living and working there.

Eric Gourlan, a professional French photographer born in 1968, has taught photography and photographed people and events around the world, including street children, refugee camps and a 17 month road expedition in the Baltics and Eurasia.
